While searching the internet for fellow successful traders, I chanced upon several threads on forums questioning if these Options Trading courses were scams. Some of the common ones were about Clement Chang's, Kishore M's and Mirriam MacWilliams's.
Having personally attended the Mirriam MacWilliam's course myself, here's what I thought about the reviews
- Most (or all) of the negative reviews came from people who had not attended the course themselves
To be fair, only people who have sat through the entire training can fairly comment on the effectiveness of the course. For me, I'd say it's money well spent. True, there are cheaper alternatives out there that I have not tried but the course was legitimate and I have no regrets so far.
It wasn't easy finding good reviews either but I guess that's because good news doesn't spread as well as the bad ones. Why would someone doing well go to the forums and start bragging about how well they have done?
- One interesting comment I found was "If Mirriam MacWilliams is so successful, why is she sharing her trading tips with us? Why wouldn't she just keep it to herself and just trade all day?"
I wouldn't be questioning too much on that because I honestly learnt so much from the course and Mirriam was very genuine in sharing her tips. But one thing about her strategy is that there is only a small window of time when it is optimal to enter your trades. After that, there's nothing much left to do except wait and see how your trades went. So for me, even if this makes enough money for me to quit my job, I would still prefer to continue working. Isn't it cool if work were a choice? ;)
- Besides, Mirriam has been in the business for almost a decade
According to her wiki page, she has trained more than 5,000 students to date. Singaporeans are not idiots right? Would anyone in Singapore get away with scamming 5,000 people in a span of 9 years? I'd also feel a lot more at ease dealing with companies that have been around for some time as opposed to one that might just disappear the next day.
- Several media appearances
There's always more authority when someone is featured in the media (for the right reasons).
I don't know about the media requirements in other countries but the Media in Singapore can be a pain to work with before they agree to give you a feature. The background checks and screenings sure are extensive! That said, Mirriam has a pretty impressive list of media appearances! CNA, Straits Times, 93.8fm, and other programs from Malaysia, Indonesia and Hongkong.
After a pretty extensive search, I feel assured at the very least that I haven't come across any stories of huge losses from the course. Like I said, bad news spreads fast so if it's not easy to find it probably doesn't exist.
*Will update if I do one day!
